Don, I got these pictures from Worthpoint, No idea how long ago it sold,or for how much. The seller stated that the original decals were very cracked, and the two aftermarket decals, one was printed with white background and the other on clear. The aftermarket ones look out of proportion to me. I only printed these here as a reminder of what they looked like, for people (like me, LOL) could remember them. This kit came out in 1975, the year I graduated, I wasn't really buying TDs then anymore, so never got one. Now of course they don't come up often, and way out of my price range. I also didn't know before, that the kit started out as the Horned Toad. Very cool that you still have your original one. Jim I was 13 when I built it. I never thought it was a cool looking kit, but I'm a sucker for lime green which was likely the reason I bought it ! Its still complete and considering my dads habit of purging my stuff as a kid I'm amazed it survived .Its going to stay as is, unrestored.

Hi Bob, As I was searching, I came across an old ad for a Rattler for sale, and these were on it, so I sniped them. Too bad the pictures weren't good enough to copy for decals. Jim Too bad no one here saw it when it was still for sale, maybe the guy would have send a scan . whoever ends up making repro decals for this kit is bound to sell all he can make ! Funny how a kit like this that wasn't really popular and was released kind of at the end of the show rod craze ended up being the grail kit for so many guys. I'm sure glad that one of my few survivor builds from my childhood was a Rattler !

Hmmm , well the Deora did have a Ford station wagon rear hatch glass for the flip out entry ; maybe Ford thought they could do better with an all Ford product ?

I think these have to about the most rare of the showrod decals ; I've looked at decal lots on Ebay for years and never found even a partial sheet. Its just a rare kit and if you built it , you used the decals. Maybe someone here has an unbuilt one and you could get a scan of the decal and make copies.

There is (was?) one in a spray can entitled "Chrome for Lexan". Perhaps this is what he meant... Yes, it was the one marked for Lexan, but worked perfectly fine or regular plastic. Most sites have it listed as "out of stock"

Just ran out of my last spray can of chrome Alclad, only to find that nobody has it in stock. . Is it a Covid thing, or has it been discontinued ? Is there any other spray chrome that comes close to it ?

$51 aint bad...of course, that guy who won it might have had a bid for $200 sitting there... Its a Bizarro world on Ebay now, kits that were always out like the Beer Wagon and the Badman are in the $40.00 and up range (I've seen them sell for $65.00 ) , while rare kits like this you can still get cheap. There was a decent built Horn Toad that just sold on Ebay last week , missing the roller tires and the exhaust header . It was at 20 bucks all week and sold for 30 bucks.

People on Ebay are asking such high starting bids now , but many are getting sold at those prices . And they said this hobby was dying ?

Some of the Figure 8 footage was from ABC's "Wide World of Sports" coverage of Riverhead raceway late 50's to early 60's. The cars look pretty rust free for a N.E. track ; I read it was filmed at Ascot Park Speedway ,though I guess some of it could have been added in later

I just watched a cheezy on demand "B" movie called "Pitstop" .It so low budget that its filmed in black and white, even though its a 1969 movie . The good part is that it full of cars - there are two gassers in the very beginning and a Barris looking custom car , it then shifts to a junkyard and figure 8 racing where all sorts of rust free 1950s cars get destroyed (One is a Hudson Hornet and I swear there was a 57 Fury in there) Later it shifts to modifieds racing figure 8, then some sand rails and early homemade dune buggies and finally to an oval track stock car race. George Barris has a cameo in what's supposed to be (or actually may be) his shop and the Calico Surfer is there. Sid Haig plays the bad guy . Its as low budget as you'd expect, but most of the racing is real . Its just too bad they didn't shoot it in color!

Sweet build I hope you did not have to paint all the coke bottles. Originally I was looking at craft stores for doll house coke cases, but luckily I found a beat up Franklin Mint truck that had pre painted parts which supplied the cases . Each row has a full set of cases in it ; when I finished it I found I didn't have to do that since you can only see the outside ones !

Makes me want a 6 or 8oz Coke in a bottle. I like all of the changes. The cooler between the seats is a nice touch. Did you can the chain drive? Yes, the chain drive and transfer case was all cut out; I used the rear diff from the Garbage truck and a driveshaft from the parts bin. The Kegs were also not used and a gas tank from an old Jeep Commando kit was installed. You can see some shots of the underside in the "in progress" section .

If I could connect back to the board I d like to raffle it back to the guys that were there. It’s ,so I’m told, worth something to those guys. As it was the first one made before the actual product of the Batmobile started. There’s no paint or decals. I guess give it back Boards come and go (except this one ! ) ; if you remembered the name of the board its possible someone here may have some info on it. Unfortunately, a lot of guys use nick names and if the board is gone the people who were on it may never have known the members real names.

20 years ? The last 40 have flown by for me ! LOL . I joined this site in 2004 , but at one point it was suggested instead of nicknames ,we should use our own name and when I changed it I got upped to 2006 . Seen a lot here, learned a lot here , you guys really got me back into a hobby I had loved as a kid, and still do now.

Sure! Here it is in October 2019, great way to celebrate my 60th birthday! Below the 2 pics of my re-creation is the original car in 1972. Have become good friends with the original driver, he's 82 now! (Fred Smith photo) Great looking Gremlin mod ! Our local track is pavement , so I see why our cars would be different .

I'm looking for the Tom Daniel Rattler decal sheet in good useable condition . I don't have a sheet as I sold this model years ago. If anyone out there has this kit and a good decal sheet, they should scan it and send it to you via email in 300ppi (or larger) size and try this place I found on the web: www.bedlamcreations.com/custom-waterslide-decals/On a related note, I see a missed opportunity on my part. I should have scanned in all decal sheets when I had all 275 kits. I could link them now and anyone could use a service like this to have them reproduced--DR I've regretted using some of my decals and not scanning them beforehand. I'm still looking for a scan or an old set of decals for the Leva car ; been looking for years !

Here's mine finished: Had to add a radiator hose and clamps to my parts box radiator! A little "battle damage" to nerf bars and I drilled license plate holes in the bumpers. More battle damage and the right front, according to the rules of the era, had to be a "safety hub". The yellow ovals were challenging, as the decal numbers were apparently bigger in relation to the door height than the "artist's rendering". I actually made .040 styrene templates for the ovals and the dark green areas on the "C"-pillar so all would be the same size and shape. First 3 color paint job in many years, dark green and yellow are Tamiya and the lighter green is "Limelight" by Model car world, first use of my airbrush in probably 20 years. That's a real beauty ! I didn't put the nerf bars on mine as the full fendered Sportsman division at our local track had the behind the doors. Your paint job came out perfect and those resin dirt tires you got look more realistic than the huge modified tires in the kit.

The mods in my area looked like the later MPC modifieds, but if it was a stock car, I was into building them ! Here is my reissued build , box stock. It looks like our colors are close ! LOL

Even though they looked nothing like the New England asphalt modifieds I was familiar with ,I loved these kits too ; I had the 64 and 69 Fords. Since they said in the instructions to melt the bodies to make them looked raced , both ended up pretty ugly after meeting my dads soldering gun LOL. When the reissues came I bought one of each ; the GTO never got reissued but I found a junker on Ebay and restored that one too. I'm looking forward to seeing your Buick finished !

I wouldn't say rare , but its not a common kit . Prices for old kits are high right now, you may want to check Ebay to see what these have been selling for. A couple of years ago you could get an opened one for around $30.00

I've been saying the same thing - You used to be able to find junkyard gluebombs for less than 20 bucks , now just a chrome tree or a set of tires will go for that. Even the kits that weren't really popular like a Sand Shark are going for big bucks right now , and common kits that were reissued many times over like the Red Baron, Cherry Bomb and Beer Wagons are sky high. The only kits that aren't selling for big money are 1990s and up Nascar kits.

I dumped Photobucket when they stabbed everyone in the back with their fees. I downloaded all my pictures from them to my computer, and loaded them on IMGUR , which I've been using for several years now. Its free , and you can post pictures here or any other site with no problems.
