On a somber note, I read that fellow C.C. member Marvin Hawkins passed away on 1/25/21 after a long battle with cancer at age 50 . His brother Ken had mentioned here that he was going into hospice ,and he passed soon after. I dealt Pokey quite a few times here over the years and to those who knew him know he was a great guy. My prayers go out to Ken and his family.

I've seen this kit, but never seen it built , it looks really great. I like it, it the sort of thing that people thought we would be doing by the 1990s - like those personal jet packs that I was really hoping we would have by now !

It was re-released back in '09. They can't be too hard to find. You would be surprised to see what those reissues are going for these days ! I think a Sand Shark sold on Ebay for over 60 bucks ; a few years ago you could get them for next to nothing !

Nice work Don. I've only seen the box art before. So you have to get three kits to do this, all versions correct? Y'all are going to make me buy a couple. Yes, you would have to buy three kits to build the three versions . A few years ago the kit was reissued, that time it was just listed as one kit that you could build three ways instead of them issuing three different names and box art with the same kit. They are simple builds, but fun , I worked on them while waiting for paint to dry on other builds I was working on.

Those are awesome Don ! I may just have to get the others and complete my set . From what I've found the Devil Drag originated in 1959 as a '29 Model B Roadster . Most parts were carried over but the body was changed for the 1962 "32 Roadster" which was later reissued as the three kits you have . The Devil Drag , Time Bomb , Mind Blower , and Ford Fooler were all released around 1967 (?) . That's pretty funny ; After seeing your Devil Drag build, I said I should look for one of them to complete my set !

After seeing the great job Tooold did on the Lindberg Devil Drag kit ,I thought I'd show some of Lindberg's related kits that I built a few years ago . The Time Bomb, Mind Blower, and the Ford Fooler .These are the 1970s versions of the same kit Lindberg probably had out since the 1950s ,and still gets reissued from time to time. Except for the decals, the unique pieces to each kit are included in every kit .The only changes I made was to the Time Bomb; I kept a hood on it and gutted the radiator shell- I think it looks better with them .

Slump buster build ; not a kit I would recommend unless you like Tbirds ! - its just a 69 Tbird annual body with a chassis that lacks a lot of detail. The Allison engine on the other hand is a mass of chrome bits and very detailed, but the problem I had was the vague instructions, and lack of mounting points . At least its another kit off my stash shelf and finished !

Great looking box stock build ! I built a Lindberg "Time Bomb" a few years ago and I learned that they actually had three kits out at the same time which were all the same kit ; you just used the parts for your specific build, but all the parts were included to build any of them . Yours is kit is different , but I see some parts that they used for this kit too !

Always love seeing a kit restored. Very nice job on this one! I restored a Dragon Wagon glue bomb I bought about 6 months before they re-released it so I know how tough a job that can be. Love the color. Did you do the silver trim on the fenders with a sharpie? I did the silver trim with an old Pactra paint pen. it was nearly empty so I was able to run the tip on the edges without the risk of fresh silver paint pouring out of the pen.

I got the same kit from the club. I remember coloring the top with a black magic marker as I had no black paint (or red, for that matter) . I tried building it quickly as any 12 year old would and made a mess of the front end pieces and...it never got built ! I still find bits of the kit from time to time in a large junk box I've had for close to 50 years now. Maybe someday I'll be able to get one on Ebay for a decent price and finally build it.

He is very lucky he has a brother like you to keep him going . I can imagine him wanting to give up with all the pain he has been going through , but luckily you are there for him . Glad to hear he got the insurance ; that must be a big relief . Please let him know he is in our prayers !

Its really looking good ! I wish I had thought of cutting the body on mine ; it was a real pain to fill and sand out the seams after it was built and then mask off the glass and wheel openings to paint it !

Lots of stuff coming out next year ! I'll admit theres not much I'm interested in , but I'm sure they have a huge following of plane and ship builders. I will get both Snoopy and the Red Baron kits ,both have been grails of mine for years. I had both of them but they must have got thrown out by my dad during one of his clear outs. I'll get the Unreal Roller because its A TD kit I dont have yet , and the Whiplash Camaro mainly to replace the decals on my original kits. I'm sure glad Atlantis saved the model builders hobby !

Thanks Don. We don't see many Nascar kits here in the UK so have to grab when we can. Hi Pat , I know you're in the UK shipping may be an issue , but I still have some old Nascar kits in my stash . If you're interested, please shoot me an Email or PM me .

So on the 26 of November Atlantis will post a list on Facebook of 40 kits there going to do for 2021 . I know the Snoopy and Red Baron airplane kits are due out from them soon ; those are two that I've been looking to get for a long time . It will be interesting to see what the 40 kits are !

Looks great! Tons of decals on it. Never did a NASCAR kit, are they more difficult than normal kits? Paul They are pretty straightforward build wise ; there are some small bits that can be a pain, but they aren't really hard for the average modeler. The only problem is that if you like Nascar cars, every kit is exactly the same and its only paint and decals that set them apart. I built a bunch back in their heyday and building them became like an assembly line in my basement !

Currently on my table. I've never built a Digger before, mainly because I've never really seen one that the clam shell was not warped.
So we'll see where this one goes.... SO FAR
I bought two of the reissues and both were really warped to the point of no return ; I got lucky and found an original body and decals in a parts lot on Ebay . I'm looking forward to see where you go with this !

I have also used silver on many occasions , mostly Krylon , and have had no problems. It goes on very thin and dries fast. You can buy small cans of Krylon spray at most craft stores under the name "Small Shots" if you want to test it on your kit.

Some more progress on the Beer Wagon . Went a different direction with the exhaust- I took some Groovy Grader headers and notched the B Wagons block so they fit underneath. Because of the fit, I had to move the block forward and grind down the front of it, but no one ever sees it on this kit anyway. I also want to change the intake set up .This is the test fit ; the hood had to have a slight modification - Does anyone recognize what kit this was from ? Lots of progress in the cargo area ! Box is nearly done . The front stops are part of the Beer Wagon's stake body cut down .The ridges on the sides of the bed were part of the chains which I cut off to give it an antique wrought iron look ( don't know if it works, but I like it ! )

Man , do I have a messy bench ! Test fitting some pieces . You can see the running board supports that were cut from the Beer Wagon stakes. I think they worked out perfectly. With the chain drive gone , I needed to get something to get the truck moving . I tried a few things, but in the end I wound up using a diff from the Garbage Truck . I never realized it before , but the G Truck and the B Wagon share the same suspension parts ! The molded in partial driveshaft was sanded off and a "real" one is from the parts box.

The maltese cross didnt go with my idea , so I cut it out and made a round window , so it looks like something you may have found on a 1920s truck Test fitting rear body which was made from flat stock . It sits a little low , but I found that the bed of the Beer Wagon underneath will bring it where I want it. The test fit seats were too big for the cab I lengthened the running boards by cutting some old Dragon Wagon fenders I had in half and grafted them onto the Beer Wagons . I cut down the Dragons rear fender so it curves up to the wheel , but will support the bed. The running board supports were cut from the Beer Wagons side stakes .

I've painted colored bodies with Krylon silver as a primer and have had no issues with bleed through , including red plastic.

I haven't been in any mood lately to build, but I have to get out of my slump, so I'm going to try something I haven't done before - a kitbash. I've had some ideas for an old reissue Beer Wagon I've had sitting around ,and I have collected other bits over the years that got thrown in the box . First of all, its a great classic kit, but I never really liked the old chain drive with a big V8 engine, so off it goes. Removing all the chain spindles and transfer case really weakened the frame , so I added some sheet plastic to the frame and a brace with some junk sprue An old part from a gluebomb Beer Wagon fits right in to stiffen the frame up ! More to come ...
