Yeah, we should keep the threads "clean" of comments as stated. Any comments should be in a thread on here. It makes for a better "gallery" of builds instead of having to wade through the comments, another build photo, comments, photo, etc.

Welcome aboard. It's always neat to hear of all the airplane and military builders the Rommel's Rod converted over. A lot of builders found that kit to be the one that sparked them into branching out into cars and show rods. Ya gotta admit, to a young kid, that box art and description was pretty intoxicating. Way more fun than a stock plane.

The only wheel I have seen in person was on the front of the McMullen roadster. I am not sure who made them, but I would guess they came out at the time Tom was creating artwork. Looking at the design, I would venture to say they weren't very strong? But they did exist...

The Bed Buggy I am excited about... I got lucky and had a glue-bomb.. the Woodlite headlights alone are worth the purchase. I wouldn't mind taking a crack at the Elegant Farmer and seeing if it could be made more hot roddy... it's a tough one. It almost needs a big tire in the front and some smaller ones in the back.. or a longer front fork, like a stylized wheel barrow frame. And a Hemi.. .Everything needs a Hemi.

Cheers Bert! Well I think so, I've ticked off all of the moves so far in the instructions, my inspirations are these two kits, I'd love to get hold of.......... And.......................... So I may change my upper body in light of these designs! Man, I learn something new all the time.. I have (and built) the Sand Piper, but didn't know there was an earlier version... awesome. The Sand Piper was one of the only show rods I've built box stock...

I bought it when it was first re-issued, and once I had it, I just couldn't get into it... LOL.. I think I sold it off or traded it... Maybe one day I'll take another look at it.

If you make your OWN show rod, and it's an obvious show rod and not a T-bucket with a new name or a custom Merc or something. it can always go in the show rod section... They don't just have to be on the 275 list.
In fact I would encourage everyone to make their own show rods.

I had that kit in my hands at Hobby Lobby but then remembered I was Christmas shopping for the kids.... Such a great kit, and the Astro Supreme wheels are the bee's knees with a skinny white on a '60s custom.... Good job, and I love the color...

Looks like a show rod to me! Great job, especially on the engine stretch. (Too much is never enough.)

I ran across this in the latest Slot Car Mods magazine.. they took an old gun case and made a display case out of it. I thought it was pretty cool, they are about the right depth for model cars.

That's crazy... in a good way. I was going to say on the wheelie thing, I think for one of the contests Dave McGowan added a bunch of pennies as ballast to one of his entries to help it stay in a wheelie position. A little weight hidden somewhere might help if you need it.

I must say the shelves of Hobby Lobby are booming! I've been known to rant about the blandness of the offerings in the past, but I am pleased to change my stance. The re-issues and new kits (gasser Ford wagon?) are awesome. The aisle was even full of people buying kits. Many of the kits brought back some memories for me, and I had to remind myself I was in there shopping for others, or I would have drained my wallet. The trophy series cars and 3n1 super stars with the optional goodies, like the AMT '53 Ford pickup, '49 Ford convertible, the spilt window Vette with fenderwell headers, the AMT '58 Chevy, the '37 Chevy with the clear hood.. a hundred childhood memories came rolling back. One kit that surprised me was the '70 Pontiac. It came with some cool scuba gear that MIGHT be a replacement for a Blue Beetle, or at least lend a cool element to another build or even a beach-going show rod. Happy days are here again,.. get out, go buy some kits, and let's hope they make more.
